Pre-Kinder Room (3yrs to 4yrs)

2 staff to 15 children

In January 2020 we have implemented a 3yr old kinder program in the Pre Kinder room by a Bachelor qualified Early Childhood teacher. This will ensure that every child that attends Pre kinder room, will participate in a minimum 5 hours of 3 yr. old kinder program each week.

Pre Kinder room can accommodate up to 15 children per day with two educators.

Educators follow each child’s learning journey by maintaining their portfolios, which are accessible to parents at any time. Educators recommend families input through “Chat Books”. Chat books are great for Educators to learn about what children do at home and follow that interest through the planning. The room has a strong focus on children developing choices; they are given responsibility in setting and creating a room to play, explore and be inspired. Educators work with each child to instil confidence in their ability to achieve all they want to. A rich program follows cultural events, promoting multiculturalism within the room and the community. The room has plenty of interesting spaces for children to explore independently, with a peer or within a group.

Children are encouraged to develop sound knowledge and skills in practical life experiences. These experiences include such things as pouring water, using tongs to transfer items, threading and dressing (i.e., putting a sock on and off) and much more. Children are praised on the process rather than the outcome of an experience, which instils self-esteem and a rounded focus on different areas of development. They get joy and feel supported through positive encouragement and reinforcement of skills learned.

The program extends children’s creativity and cognitive skills. The program also includes a variety of incursions based on children interests.

The morning group time is also the discussion point for the day’s planning and programming. Children and Educators discuss what they would like to do for the day and plan how they will go about it. This approach allows children to take ownership of the room, their activities, and the responsibilities they all have as active members within the room.

The Educators welcome feedback from families.

Throughout the year the Pre Kinder Educators prepare children for the transition into Kinder for the following year, with experiences built around concepts of numeracy, literacy and communication.
